SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 16-ranked Augustana (0-0) opens the dual season this Friday, Dec. 7, with three matches at the “Battle for the Planes” hosted by the Air Force Academy at Jackson County Central High School in Jackson, Minn. Augustana will open with Northwestern (Iowa) (0-3) at 3:30 p.m. before taking on Dakota Wesleyan (2-1) at 5 p.m. The Vikings will close-out the night against Air Force Academy (0-0) at 8 p.m.
Last time out
Augustana placed 12 wrestlers at the MSU Moorhead Open last Saturday, with six wrestlers earning championship honors in their respective weight classes. TJ North (125), Nate Herda (149), Jayd Docken (197), Morgan Engbrecht (125), Jacob Anderson (149) and Michael Lowman (285) each won titles.
Jeremiah Peterson finished fourth at 133 pounds, Shawn Hatlestad was sixth at 157, Tim Weber finished fifth at 174, Sean Derry was the runner-up at 184, Mitch Rechtzigel finished second at 165 and Drake Fanslau finished fifth at 174 pounds.
Heading into hibernation
After competing in the “Battle for the Planes” meet in Jackson on Friday, Augustana will not return to action until
after the New Year holiday. Augustana is set to dual Concordia-Moorhead on Jan. 5 at 4 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn., before opening its NSIC slate at the University of Mary at 2 p.m. on Jan. 6.
