The Rochester Community and Technical College wrestling program is continuing their successful season by winning the NJCAA Non-Scholarship National Invitational held at Harper Community College on Saturday. This was the first year of the event and it included several NJCAA nationally ranked teams from around the nation.
Going into the final round the Jackets had six in the finals and led Harper by ten points. “I felt pretty good about where we were at and the matchups we had in the finals. As the round progressed and we began to lose matches, I had no idea if we would pull it out,” noted Coach Randy Rager. A few key wins in the final round gave Rochester enough push to win the event.
“We have been wrestling well all season, and this team is just an awesome group of individuals.,” said Rager. “They are good wrestlers, and more importantly they are good people. It makes it very rewarding for our coaching staff to work with this team.”
The Yellowjackets wrestle next against Minnesota West on Thursday, January 31st at the UCR Sports Center in Rochester. Wrestling action starts at 7:00PM and admission is Free.
