The ‘Asian Switzerland’: Why Singapore has been chosen to host Trump-Kim summit

Singapore has been chosen to host the much-anticipated meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un in the coming weeks. 

The US president, who had previously said the city-state was under consideration, confirmed it had been selected as the location for his June 12 meeting with the North Korean leader.

Singapore has long been floated as a possible location for the unprecedented summit, along with Mongolia and the DMZ.  

Mr Trump had previously said the Korea Peninsula’s Demilitarised Zone would be a more "representative, important, and lasting site" but the idea was reportedly vetoed by his security advisers.
