ROCHESTER — The end wasn’t quite what they wanted, but the Knights still proved their place among some of the nation’s best.
The Kenyon-Wanamingo wrestling team finished 10th out of 32 teams at The Clash XIV, a 32-team dual tournament featuring schools from all over the country. The two-day tourney finished Saturday at the Regional Recreational Sports Center Field House on the Rochester Technical and Community College campus. The Knights went 4-2 for the weekend, taking second in Bracket 3 on Saturday for their best finish ever at The Clash.

Needing a win over No. 3-AAA Anoka in the final match to finish ninth, No. 2-A K-W came up just short, with a chance to tie in the ultimate match. Jeron Matson, the top-ranked wrestler at 106 pounds in Class A, needed a pin or technical fall over Colby Njos, ranked No. 4 in Class AAA. Matson couldn’t quite get there as Njos worked just to avoid being pinned, and the 12-0 major decision left the team score 26-24. Continue reading at southernminn.com
