MANKATO, Minn. — The latest national poll has been released and for the first time this season, the Mavericks are ranked in the top-20, tied for 14th.
MSU’s ranking is the third highest among NSIC teams, trailing only St. Cloud State (2nd) and Upper Iowa (8th). MSU’s 21-12 win over #16 Indianapolis last week helped the Mavericks move up in the rankings. MSU is also 3-0 in NSIC action this season, which tops the NSIC.
Three Mavericks are individually ranked in the nation. Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.) moved up four spots to the second ranking in the country. This comes after an upset over top-ranked and defending national champion Jonatan Rivera (Notre Dame(OH)) by a 6-3 decision. He also defeated seventh-ranked Chase White (Nebraska-Kearney) that same day by a 7-3 decision.
Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.) earned his first ranking of the year, where he sits in seventh. Cooling has compiled a 17-3 record this season and is 7-1 against Division II competition.
Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) also made his debut in the national rankings this season. VanDeLoo ranks eighth in the country behind a solid 12-1 record on the year.
