Photos: Midwest Storm Leaves Snow And Holiday Travel Nightmare

Hundreds of flights were canceled last night as a winter snow storm rocked the Midwest, turning holiday travel into a nightmare for many. The National Weather Service even issued a blizzard warning for parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa, resulting in the shutdown of many major highways as well.

With the end of Thanksgiving weekend, travel is always at an all-time high. The National Weather service said that 3 to 9 inches fell across northern Missouri on Sunday, with about a foot of snow and 50 mph gusts of wind battering the city of Chicago. Many people were left stranded at airports, as heavy snow continued into the morning. Jeff Colyer, the governor of Kansas, even issued a state of emergency declaration as conditions worsened throughout the evening, reported AP. Most flights are said to be back on track as of midmorning Monday, with road closures lifted.
