Monk Has 'Love' For Man Who Punched Him At Burien Gas Station

BURIEN, WA — A 72-year-old Christian monk was randomly attacked at a gas station in Burien on Tuesday morning, according to police. The King County Sheriff’s Office has released an image of the suspect in the hopes someone recognizes him.

The attacked happened around 11:30 a.m. at a Mobile gas station along Southwest 148th Street near downtown Burien. The monk, identified as the Rev. Abbot Tryphon, was pumping gas when the suspect walked up and punched Tryphon in the face.

The suspect, who is white, asked Tryphon “How is Trump?” before the attack, according to the B-Town Blog. Tryphon wrote on Facebook that he feels bad for the attacker, and is praying for him.

“Instead, I find myself filled with compassion and love for the poor tortured soul who was driven to commit such a heinous act. That a young man would sucker punch an obviously old man, and a stranger to him, is truly hard for me to comprehend. Even more, I am praying for my attacker,” Tryphon wrote.

The suspect is wanted on a felony assault charge, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Tryphon is a priest at the All-Merciful Saviour Monastery on Vashon Island
