DECATUR, GA — The murder trial of a former DeKalb County police officer is set to begin Monday. On March 5, 2019, Robert Olsen shot and killed Anthony Hill outside a Chamblee apartment complex. Olsen, who is white, killed Hill, who was black, when the officer encountered the unarmed Army veteran after reports that Hill was naked and acting erratically.
Hill, 27, had stopped taking medications for PTSD when Olsen encountered him. Olsen has said he thought Hill was high on drugs and that he feared for his safety. Police say Hill ran toward officers and did not obey commands to stop. The shooting took place last year at the Heights of Chamblee apartment complex.

Olsen’s trial has been delayed after several judges recused themselves from presiding at the trial.
Olsen is Georgia’s first police officer to be tried for murder in five years. He has since resigned from the DeKalb County police department.
