West Ham United transfers: How the Hammers could line up after January with Gomez, Drinkwater and Deulofeu

West Ham United seem set for another frantic finish to a January Deadline Day as the transfer window prepares to shut.

Having already confirmed the signing of Samir Nasri, the Hammers were then involved in a public saga involving Marko Arnautovic.

Although the striker is now set to stay at the London Stadium, there are several players who do not have such a clear idea of where their future lies.

Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez could be set for switches to Spain, with moves to Real Betis and Valencia mooted respectively.

But with Arnautovic limping off against Wolves on Tuesday night, boss Manuel Pellegrini will be all too aware he cannot rely on just Andy Carroll up top.

Similarly, injuries to Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez have decimated the Chilean’s midfield options and Manuel Lanzini is still not ready to return.

With that in mind, scroll down to see which players the Hammers could be bringing in before the January window shuts at 11pm.

And see how Manuel Pellegrini’s new look side could line up.

What is the latest news?

Maxi Gomez deal in the balance

A deal which has gathered serious moment in the past fortnight, Celta Vigo starlet Maxi Gomez could well be on his way to the London Stadium.

Although there are rumours circulating the 22-year-old will join in the summer, injuries to Arnautovic and the departs of Perez and Hernandez could see a deal forced through.

Danny Drinkwater eyed for loan

As exclusively revealed by talkSPORT, a loan move for Danny Drinkwater could well be on the cards.

The Premier League winner has been shunned by Blues boss Maurizio Sarri this season and a temporary move could kickstart his career.

Watford demand £30m for Gerard Deulofeu

In what would be seen as a massive shock, The Sun are claiming Deulofeu is a target for the Hammers.

Pacy and dangerous on his day, the winger would reportedly be allowed to leave if an offer of £30million came in.

How could they line up after January?

Classic 4-4-2

Arguably, this would be Pellegrini’s dream formation for West Ham once the transfer window closes.

The power and pace of Gomez would work perfectly alongside the skills and link-up play of Arnautovic, Rice and Drinkwater would battle relentlessly in midfield and Deulofeu and Anderson have the pace to trouble any defence.

Overload the midfield

The signing of Nasri has, thus far, proved to be a shrewd one. The former Arsenal man was instrumental in helping Hammers beat his former side at the start of the month.

With the former Manchester City man pulling strings in midfield, possession and movement in the final third will be key.

Arnautovic could work well in bringing the wide men into play as a lone striker, but Pellegrini has shown he is not afraid to demand crosses be launched into the box, with Gomez or Carroll perfect target men.

All-out attack

This formation would work fantastically well against sides who want to sit back at the London Stadium or for when the Hammers want to counter-attack.

With three midfielders who are all well versed in tracking back and defending, the full backs can freely rampage on the overlap to add new dimensions to the attack.

Similarly, against sides in the Top Six, the full backs can stay back and help the defence. Whilst they perform their duties, the midfielders will be looking to release the front three to unleash their devastating pace in behind.
