Chris Smalling injury latest: Will Man United defender start against Fulham? Club offer latest update

Chris Smalling is in contention to make his Manchester United return at his old club Fulham.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side kick off the Premier League weekend with a trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday lunchtime.

United, who beat Leicester 1-0 last Sunday, have the chance to leapfrog Chelsea into fourth if they win in west London.

Barring long-term absentee Marcos Rojo, Solskjaer has a full squad to pick from and could welcome Smalling into his plans for the first time since becoming boss.

What games has he missed?

Smalling was forced off early in the reverse fixture against Fulham on December 8, which United won 4-1, with a foot injury.

He has missed 12 games to date, including every match Solskjaer has been in charge of.

When will be back?

Smalling is now in full training with the rest of the United squad having overcome his injury.

He could make the squad to face Fulham, who he left United for in 2010 for £10million, but it would be unlikely to see him start ahead of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly or Phil Jones.

What has Solskjaer said?

Prior to United’s draw with Burnley last week, Solskjaer said: “Chris has trained for a week now, so he’s looking good.

“It’s about when do we get him into the team.”

What is his record this season?

Smalling has made 18 United appearances in all competitions so far this season with the Red Devils keeping five clean sheets in the games he’s featured in.

Smalling also netted what proved to be the winner in United’s 2-1 victory at Watford back in September.
