Burnley striker Peter Crouch to get his own sausage named after him called ‘Crouchie’s Red Hot Robot’

Peter Crouch has had a sausage named after him following his deadline day move to Burnley.

The 38-year-old returned to the Premier League after an eight-month absence following his relegation with Stoke City last campaign

And Sean Dyche’s decision to bring the target man to Turf Moor has been met with joyful glee amongst the Clarets faithful.

After some fans cheekily posted a ‘Mind Your Head’ sign on a bridge in the town before Saturday’s game with Southampton, Burnley based Heys Family Butchers will now start producing a sausage in Crouch’s honour.

The company, who will make the meat on matchdays, gave customers the chance to name the sausage. Unfortunately ‘The Beanpole Banger’ and ‘Two Metre Peter’ just missed the cut.

Instead, ‘Crouchie’s Red Hot Robot’ is set to be enjoyed by customers in the north-west in homage to the striker’s famous celebration.

“It would be fantastic to see Peter down at the butchers – he will certainly get a warm welcome and some of his sausages to take home for his tea,” owner Danny Heys told BBC Sport.

“We usually only do celebratory sausages for players or managers when they have achieved something at the club, but Crouchie coming to Burnley has really caught the imagination of our customers.

“He really is one of the characters that makes English football so special. Let’s hope he can bag a few goals and help us climb to safety and we see the robot in full flow.”
