Jadon Sancho claims a ‘crazy’ amount of clubs wanted to sign him before he joined Borussia Dortmund

Jadon Sancho has revealed a “crazy” amount of clubs wanted to sign him before he joined Borussia Dortmund.

The youngster signed for the Bundesliga outfit for £8million in 2017 after struggling to break through the ranks at Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola had no qualms about Sancho’s ability and was willing to offer him a new contract, but he was powerless to prevent the forward from fulfilling his wish to leave.

And there’s no question his decision was the correct one as he has already achieved extraordinary success for Die Borussen.

He has notched up the third most assists in Europe (10) behind only Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard, was named the Bundesliga Player of the Month for October and has also earned three senior caps for England.

But the 18-year-old has revealed Dortmund were not the only club interested in prising him away from Manchester.

Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, Sancho said: “Why Dortmund? It speaks for itself: youngsters get opportunities.

“You’ve got to thank Dortmund, because it’s unheard of for a team that gets 80,000 fans at every home game to put so much faith in youngsters.

“It was crazy how many clubs wanted me – it shows how well you’re doing, but I always felt Dortmund was right for me.”

Sancho also admitted the move abroad was a gamble and really could have gone either way.

He claimed: “Of course it was a big risk. I wasn’t guaranteed playing time, and I had to prove I was good enough to fit in with their side.

“A few people weren’t sure when I first told them about Dortmund, but I felt this was the best journey for me. Just try it, you know?

“I like trying new things, so it didn’t really faze me. A few asked me, ‘What if it doesn’t work out?’ but I never thought about that. And look at how it’s worked out now.”

Sancho has been a key figure in his club’s impressive league campaign so far, with Lucian Favre’s side leading Germany’s top-flight by seven points after 20 matches.
