Marco Silva’s Everton team selection caused a bit of an uproar on Merseyside as Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson dropped to the bench to face Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Goodison Park on Wednesday night knowing a win Could see them overtake Liverpool at the top of the table on goal difference – for the time being, at least.
And that has sparked a big pre-match debate in Merseyside.
Everton fans find themselves in a bit of a conundrum – do they support their team us usual, or do they want the Toffees to lose against the defending champions just to spite their Red rivals?
In fact, one Toffee came on talkSPORT in an attempt to put a disgruntled Liverpool fan in his place as he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast he wanted to see Everton LOSE to spite their bitter rivals!
And some fans on Twitter are convinced Silva has picked a weakened team in a bid to win over like-minded Evertonians!
With Gyfli Sigurdsson, Richarlison and Cenk Tosun dropping to the bench, there is also a place in the side for young defender Jonjoe Kenny.
Naturally losing such instrumental players has left the Toffees looking somewhat weaker than they can be – leading fans to think there may be foul play!
