Andy Robertson deserves to win individual awards if Liverpool win Premier League title, says Tony Cascarino

Andy Robertson deserves to win individual awards if Liverpool are crowned Premier League champions, says Tony Cascarino.

Robertson has become a fans’ favourite since joining the Reds in an £8million deal from Hull in 2017 and has played an integral part in Liverpool’s title charge this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s men are five points clear of second-placed Manchester City with 14 games remaining.

And ex-Chelsea striker Cascarino has tipped Robertson to be in with a chance of winning either the Football Writers or the PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards.

The Scotland captain’s team-mate Mohamed Salah won both honours last season.

In his Times column, Cascarino said: “I thought it was significant that the first audible chant of the night [against Leicester on Wednesday] from the Liverpool fans was in support of Andy Robertson.

“Left-backs will rarely get anywhere near contention for the two big player of the year awards but, when I looked back over my teams of the week for The Times this season I noticed Robertson had appeared more than any other player.

“Virgil van Dijk, his fellow Liverpool defender, has received plenty of praise.

“But if Liverpool win the league and Robertson maintains his form until the end of the season, then he must be in with a chance of receiving one of the two main individual honours. I would give it to him.”
