As reported by L’Équipe, PSG’s Qatari owners are not convinced by new sporting co-ordinator Luis Campos’ keenness to sign OGC Nice coach Christophe Galtier to replace Mauricio Pochettino as Paris manager.
The long-term favourite in Doha to coach PSG has been Zinedine Zidane despite conflicting reports that emerged yesterday over a possible deal to finally secure Zidane. Some outlets reported an agreement was close but Zidane’s advisers dismissed the idea.
Although Campos is pushing to sign Galtier, who he worked with closely at Lille before LOSC won the French title last season, the QSI hierarchy don’t see the worth of replacing Mauricio Pochettino, who’s sacking would cost the club €15m, with a coach with a less impressive CV, far less European knowhow and who’s more pragmatic tactical ideas don’t match QSI’s aims for flowing attacking football in Paris.
As yet, no contact has been made with Nice for their coach with Pochettino saying he is preparing for next season. Meanwhile, in a sensational interview criticising Galtier, OGC Nice director of football Julien Fournier suggested that PSG hurry up if they do indeed want to sign Galtier as coach as the club look to next season.
