The two clubs have reached an agreement over a transfer worth €15m, with only several details left to iron out before the deal is completed. Romano adds that there was also interest from the Premier League but that Malacia wanted to work under his compatriot Peter Bosz.
For RMC, the recent arrival of American business John Textor as Lyon’s new majority shareholder has accelerated the transfer, allowing Lyon to get the deal over the line ahead of the likes of Manchester United.
The Dutch international – who has 5 caps for his country – made 50 appearances across all competitions this past season, scoring once and assisting five times. He made his debut for the first team in the the 2017/18 season for his formative side, as a Rotterdam native.
With Chelsea loanee Emerson not staying on at the club despite a broadly satisfactory season, Lyon were looking to reinforce the left-hand side of the defence as they look to recover from missing out on Europe entirely this past season.
