Roma have this afternoon announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who arrives from Paris Saint-Germain on an initial loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old will wear the number 25 shirt, and makes the move to Italy having been placed on PSG’s transfer list of “undesirables” at the start of the summer, amid a squad and management overhaul during the off-season.
L’Équipe have previously reported that the permanent clause would be at €8m, which will also become automatic should he play either more than half of the team’s games this season, or the Giallorossi qualify for the Champions League.
The former Liverpool man was himself keen on the move after speaking to José Mourinho, as he looks to nail down his spot in the Dutch squad for the World Cup in November.
He leaves the Ligue 1 champions after a lukewarm season having made 31 appearances and scored once. It remains unclear as to what portion of his €900k a month salary the Serie A side will take on.
