Backstage Update on Natalya’s WWE Status Following Cryptic Clash of Champions Promo

As seen at WWE Clash of Champions on Sunday night, Charlotte Flair defeated Natalya to retain the WWE Smackdown Women’s Title in a Lumberjack match.

After the match, Natalya cut an emotional promo, telling the live crowd in Boston she has carried the Women’s division in WWE for 10 years, and the fans have turned their backs on her, so in turn, she is turning her back on the fans. Natalya then left the ring in tears, which created speculation that she might be quitting WWE or retiring from pro wrestling.

According to Dave Meltzer on today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Natalya is not retiring, and her post-match promo last night was “not meant as a retirement promo. It was meant to be a promo to have people remember she did a really good promo”. Meltzer added WWE simply wanted Natalya to cut a promo which would get a reaction from the crowd, and Natalya has no current plans to retire. As seen following the promo, the live crowd began chanting “na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye”, which is the heel type reaction officials wanted from the Natalya WWE speech.
