As we noted earlier this week, the planned date in 2019 for ROH to make its Madison Square Garden debut is off, after WWE intervened and put a stop to the deal.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a source noted all it took was one phone call from a high-level WWE official (not Vince McMahon) to put a stop to the ROH – MSG date, and now ROH will not be debuting at MSG anytime soon.
The report furthers there was an agreement as to when the ROH – MSG event would take place, but no deal officially signed between ROH and MSG. Nevertheless, ROH’s parent company Sinclair was said to be furious that MSG backed out on the deal, especially considering MSG was putting feelers out to book indie promotions because officials felt like WWE had “snubbed” the venue by not running any events during WrestleMania 35 week at the arena.
As a result of MSG pulling the ROH date, ROH COO Joe Koff noted legal proceedings are being explored, with ROH feeling that even though there was no actual deal signed, the nature of MSG canceling in such a matter could equal a win for ROH in court. On the other side, MSG believes it had the legal right to cancel the ROH date because nothing official had been signed.

As noted, Impact Wrestling World Champion Austin Aries will be making his return to Ring of Honor at the Best in the World PPV taking place on June 29th in Baltimore, and ROH has announced Aries will be facing Kenny King at the event:
