AXS Announces Plans to Broadcast 10/5 NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed; Big Change Made to Commentary Team

AXS TV sent out a press release this afternoon confirming that, as expected, the network will broadcast NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed on Friday, Oct. 5th when New Japan returns to Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, CA.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross will return on commentary, but this time around he will not be joined by his usual broadcast partner Josh Barnett. The UFC icon noted on Twitter that he will be in Japan that evening cornering one of his students. Instead, the voice of New Japan World, Kevin Kelly, will reunite with good ole J.R. to call all the action.

So far, two championship matches have been set for Fighting Spirit Unleashed, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Coming off a grueling G1 Climax tournament, IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson will put his title on the line against the “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, who issued a challenge after pinning the champ during the 2018 G1 Finals.

In addition, the Young Bucks will defend the IWGP Tag Team Championships against their former faction mates, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa, the Guerrillas of Destiny. The last time New Japan was in California, G.o.D. led a revolution in attacking each member of The Elite, establishing themselves as the rebel Bullet Club Firing Squad division.
