Former-SmackDown Live General Manager Paige took to Twitter to announce that the previously advertised WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Asuka and Becky Lynch is no longer going forward.
It would appear that what actually happened was, the match was accidentally announced during this week’s WWE Main Event episode, potentially due to confusion stemming from WWE taping two weeks worth of television this past week.
It’s possible that they were going to set up the match next Tuesday night on Smackdown Live, or in the weeks to come, but signals got crossed and it somehow ended up on the wrong episode of Main Event, as they will advertise big pay-per-view matches on the show to attract the Hulu audience.
In order to play the whole thing off as a story, WWE had Paige take responsibility by claiming she tried to make Asuka vs. Becky Lynch happen as her final decision as the Smackdown General Manager, as she was recently removed from that position. Obviously that’s not really what happened.
Soooo I tried to make one last match before my time as #SDLive GM came to end…but unfortunately @BeckyLynchWWE vs. @WWEAsuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship is NOT official for #RoyalRumble. #Oops
