Speaking in an interview with RMC, AS Monaco Vice President Vadim Vasilyev discussed the future of teenage sensation Kylian Mbappé.
“He has incredible potential, he is a very serious person. And when I see how he is dealing with all the media pressure that has become a little much, it is impressive. He has parents who know how the industry works, they are intelligent and I am convinced that he is in the right place to continue to enjoy himself. He is the child of the club. He is the best example of the quality of our youth system which we are always seeking to bring to the fore. He is shining, it is a source of great pride for us, and we are going to gently begin negotiations for him to stay at Monaco. He is happy, everything is going well, he is surrounded by a project, and there is no reason for anything to be done differently.”
“Today, with our qualification, our coffers are well stocked, which is different to the situation in summer 2015 when we had a considerable deficit. The budget is balanced. We are going to approach each case in a measured way, but not today. I have phone calls, but I don’t listen to them. I am not negotiating with any clubs for any of my players at the moment. We are concentrated on the end of the season and we will calmly see after that. That is part of life as a turn-over club. That some players come in and go out, that is part of our project. Djibril Sidibé preferred Monaco to Arsenal, now he is in the French national team, and he can join the top European clubs. He deserves it. I am proud that we have found our own project. It is a clean turn-over, without financial pressure. Last year, we did not have any departures, we reinforced the club by spending money. That is proof that we can deal with transfers in an intelligent way, without the pressure of players leaving. Can I guarantee that Mbappé will stay? That (a guarantee) doesn’t exist. Not in football, not in private life, not in society. I cannot answer you.”
