Le Parisien report that three mayors have written to FFF President Noël Le Graët to demand that the league puts on the usual play-off system to allow for a third club to ascend from Ligue 2 into Ligue 1 for the 2020/21 season, despite the LFP ratifying at the end of April that only two clubs would ascend from the 2nd division into the 1st following the decision to truncate the 2019/20 campaigns owing to COVID-19.
AC Ajaccio, ESTAC Troyes and Clermont sat in the provisional play-off places in 3rd to 5th respectively, when league action was paused.

Olivier Bianchi, François Baroin and Laurent Marcangeli, mayors from the relevant areas, have come together to petition Le Graët to facilitate the playoffs as normal and allow for the possibility that a 3rd outfit goes into Ligue 1 next season.
“On behalf of the three clubs who have won their league positions in Ligue 2 in an undisputed fashion and who could have finished even higher had the season been entirely concluded, we want you to support and take the decision, alongside the LFP, to play the Ligue 2 play-offs and the eventual Ligue 1 promotion/relegation play-off. The organisation of these matches could occur in the same way that the two cup finals are currently being planned and enable for sporting fairness to be adhered to, as well as the LFP rules for professional competitive formats.”
