Lyon-Marseille suspended after projectile thrown at Dimitri Payet

Tonight’s Lyon-Marseille fixture has been suspended after a full bottle was thrown in the opening minutes at Dimitri Payet, hitting the playmaker on the head as he was taking a corner.

The referee, Ruddy Buquet, then temporarily suspended the match and sent the players to the dressing rooms, with Payet joining his teammates after receiving treatment on the sidelines.

A near-two hour wait then ensued, before the match was eventually called off just before 11pm local time. Lyon fans – OM supporters were absent due to a ban on their away support – were told 40 minutes beforehand that the match would resume.
