Presnel Kimpembe clarifies comments on PSG future: “I didn’t say anything wrong.”

In today’s press conference ahead of France’s final Nations League game of the month against Croatia tomorrow night, defender Presnel Kimpembe sought to clarify his recent comments regarding his future at the Ligue 1 champions.

Earlier in the month, the 26-year-old defender had indicated that the was in a “key” moment of his career and that he would be looking to speak to the club management regarding their new project, which is set to take shape over the summer under new sporting adviser Luis Campos.

His words transcribed in RMC Sport, the World Cup winner insisted that he was within his right to ask about the place he would be having at his formative club, where he has made 220 appearances since breaking through. He is under contract until 2024.

“I said that I was reaching 27 years of age and that my next contract would be decisive. I want to be able to know what the project of the club could be. I didn’t say anything wrong. I joined the club when I was 9-10 years old. I think it’s legitimate to ask my club about the future project and what role I am going to be given. […] For now I am focused on the French team and on tomorrow’s match.”
