Lille president Olivier Létang’s job in the balance

As reported by Le10Sport, Lille president Olivier Létang’s future remains in flux this summer after his relationship with the LOSC board cooled considerably in recent months.

The former Rennes and PSG director’s job is in direct danger, say the outlet, with his continued stay into next season by no means assured following the departure of coach Jocelyn Gourvennec, after just one season at the club, last week.

Létang’s decision-making has been questioned by the club’s hierarchy of late and Lille’s owners, Merlyn Partners, are currently reflecting on his position while talks with prospective new coach Paulo Fonseca are being led by fellow director Alessandro Barnaba rather than Létang.

Having failed to qualify for European competition this season, the club’s finances, which were reportedly stabilised to some extent by Létang and Co. at one point this season, remain in peril with player sales yet to meet expectations. However, there is a possibility that increased fees via PSG, rather than AC Milan, for the club’s two biggest assets, defender Sven Botman and midfielder Renato Sanches, could go some way to saving Létang’s job.
