PSG looking to begin discussions over Lionel Messi’s contract

L’Équipe are reporting that PSG consider Lionel Messi’s (35) contract situation as an “urgent” matter, and are looking to open discussions about a potential renewal. However, the Argentine international is not willing to engage in any discussions until after the World Cup, which ends in mid-December.

Messi’s contract is set to expire this summer. However, in the case of an agreement between all parties, there is an option to extend his deal by a further year.

However, Luis Campos is wanting to take the time to discuss Messi’s future with the player himself, although, as per the wish of the former Barcelona forward, this is unlikely to happen until after the World Cup in Qatar. Campos is not against prolonging his contract, and should his performance levels remain a constant, he isn’t against offering Messi a two-year deal.

Messi has started the season in blistering form, scoring 7 goals and registering 3 assists in the opening 7 Ligue 1 fixtures.
