La planète Mode est en deuil. Celui qui l’a sublimée pendant de longues années, le photographe Peter Lindbergh, n’est plus. Comme l’ont confirmé les membres de sa famille, l’artiste est décédé à l’âge de 74 ans le mercredi 4 septembre 2019. Son épouse, ses quatre fils – Benjamin, Jérémy, Simon, Joseph – et sept petits-enfants pleurent désormais sa tragique disparition.
Peter Lindbergh avait révolutionné l’univers de la mode. Lui qui rejetait en bloc les stéréotypes infligés aux modèles apportait un vent de fraîcheur et de simplicité en immortalisant les femmes sans maquillage, en noir et blanc, vêtues de couleurs sobres. C’est d’ailleurs à son oeil aiguisé que beaucoup doivent leur carrière, lui qui a lancé la tendance des super-modèles.

Elles ont toutes posé pour lui. Et fatalement, c’est la larme au coeur que les plus beaux mannequins ont tenu à rendre hommage à Peter Lindbergh. Sur les réseaux sociaux, chacune a partagé un brin de vie, une anecdote, un cliché réalisé par le photographe. “Je suis si brisée que je n’ai pas les mots, écrit Naomi Campbell. Ta vitalité, ton sourire, ta gentillesse et cette générosité qui t’a poussé à me prêter ta maison en attendant que la mienne soit prête ! Oh, Peter, tellement de souvenirs liés à ces 33 années passées ensemble. J’espère que tu reposes avec ton papa auprès de l’Eternel.“

Peter Lindbergh was a gentle man and artist. We first met in Cannes, where he shot me on a beach wearing a tuxedo I had designed for myself – no one would dress me then! he stood there listening to my stupid insecurities, smiling. We met again in Paris on a rainy night in a small caf. I was introduced to Franca Sozzani that evening. I sat at their table trying to pretend I belonged, hoping I belonged. They were unpretentious, and inviting. As I listened to them talking I realized that fashion and photography, separate or together, were inextricable parts of my work, film. That realization was essential to me. Peter’s death this morning reminds me of bygone friendships, and leaves me hoping for new ones with people as uncynical, inspiring and inspired as they were.
Dear Peter, your laughter will echo in my mind forever. Rest in peace. @therealpeterlindbergh Querido Peter, tu sonrisa resonar en mi mente para siempre. Descansa en paz.
