MMA prospect Mike “The Truth” Jackson recently spoke with the folks at TMZ Sports about being announced as the next opponent inside the Octagon for former WWE Superstar turned UFC hopeful Phil “CM Punk” Brooks.
During the interview, Jackson explained that his mindset going into the fight with Punk at UFC 225 in June is to show him that the sport of MMA isn’t for him.
“I’m not going in there to hurt him,” said Jackson. “I’m just going in there to beat him up a little bit and show him that this is not for him.”
Although both men will step into the Octagon inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with 0-1 professional MMA records, Jackson explained why he doesn’t think he’s being brought in with the hopes that he will lose and give Punk his first MMA victory and a reason to stick around the UFC for at least one more fight.
“No, I think I was picked just because of who I am and the storyline and the ability to sell a fight,” said Jackson, who lost to the same man that beat Punk, Mickey Gall, in his lone Octagon appearance as well. “I don’t think they have anything invested in his winning or losing to be honest with you. It was just a fight that made sense.”
Jackson continued, “If you bring in someone else… it’s going to get buzz but it’s not going to get like this type of buzz and it’s getting this type of buzz because it’s me. I was the guy from jump but you have to have a dope storyline and this is a storyline that even Vince McMahon couldn’t write.”
