WWE WORLDS COLLIDE: NXT VS. NXT UK PRE-SHOW RESULTS

After the opener we shoot live inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas where the trio of announcers welcome us to the pre-show for the WWE Worlds Collide: NXT vs. NXT UK live special here on the WWE Network.

The crew, which includes radio personality and frequent WWE pre-show analyst Sam Roberts, talks about some of the matches scheduled for this evening.

This leads to multiple video packages airing to tell the stories behind some of tonight’s bigger, main event-level matches.

Mia Yim vs. Kay Lee Ray

From there, we head to ringside for our first match of the evening here in Houston, TX. The lone pre-show match, which is in the women’s division, is about to get underway.

Out comes the participants for the bout, Mia Yim and Kay Lee Ray, in that order. The bell sounds and the action is now officially underway in the Toyota Center.

At about the five minute mark of the contest, Ray misses a big spot off the top turn buckle, which leaves both women on the mat slow to make it to their feet. Once they finally do, things start to pick up.

The action spills out to the floor, with Yim starting to take control of the offense. Out of nowhere, Ray levels her and heads back into the ring. She does a running hop to the top rope and dives out to Yim on the floor for a huge spot that gets the crowd on their feet.

Ray rolls Yim back in the ring and the two exchange punches as we see the countdown clock re-appear on the screen with just over 13 minutes remaining until tonight’s main show kicks off live on the WWE Network.

Yim power bombs Ray after blocking her dead in her tracks in a hurricanrana attempt. Yim hits an insane Canadian Destroyer type flipping tombstone pile-driver on Ray that looked absolutely crazy. That was the most believable near-fall thus far in what is turning into a great pre-show contest.

Finally, Ray rolls Yim up out of nowhere and holds the tights for the three-count, giving the title-holder the victory.

Winner: Kay Lee Ray

After the victory in the pre-show match, Kay Lee Ray takes her title and celebrates as she heads to the back. The trio of pre-show analysts chime back in as the camera pans back over to them and they run down some more of the action scheduled for tonight’s main show, which kicks off in just a few minutes.

WWE WORLDS COLLIDE: NXT VS. NXT UK RESULTS

We see some live shots of NXT and NXT UK Superstars arriving in the parking lot and gearing up backstage as they get in their final preparations ahead of their big matches on tonight’s show. We head to another video package.

The trio gets in some Royal Rumble plugs and wrap up their final hype for tonight’s Worlds Collide: NXT vs. NXT UK main card. The show is about to get underway now. Hang tight as the opening video package is running now.

Here we go! The video opener for the main show is in black-and-white with some super cool voice effects. Then, some hard rock and roll kicks in and we see some video highlights of action that led to some of the matches on tonight’s show.

The opening video package concludes and we shoot live into the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas where the NXT and NXT UK Universe are on their feet roaring with cheers as the main show kicks off live on the WWE Network.

Finn Balor vs. Ilja Dragunov

From there, the familiar music of Finn Balor hits the house speakers and the fans go crazy as he makes his way to the ring for tonight’s opening contest. He poses in the ring a bit as the announcers put him over and then his music fades down.

The heel tunes of Ilja Dragunov plays as the Moscow, Russian native makes his way down to the ring for arguably the biggest match of his young WWE / NXT career. Stay tuned, as Balor vs. Dragunov kicks off the Worlds Collide main show.

The bell sounds and the two lock up. Balor takes the Russian down the mat. The two wrestle back to their feet and Dragunov yanks him back down to the mat. The two continue to mat wrestle, with Dragunov getting the better of the control early on.

Back to their feet, Dragunov hits the ropes and comes flying off with a cross body splash for a near fall. Dragunov pops up and stops in mid-action to pose in arrogant fashion. Balor goes to do the same and Dragunov takes a cheap shot at him.

Dragunov goes for a sunset flip into a pin attempt but Balor stops short and blasts him in the grill with a big kick before throwing him to the floor and blasting him with a baseball slide kick to the face. Back in the ring, Balor goes to work on Dragunov with chops in the corner.

Up to the top for Dragunov, who gets Balor out to the floor outside of the ring. He comes leaping off for a double axe-handle smash, but Balor is nowhere to be found. On the follow-up, Balor comes over and puts the boots to the Moscow native before rolling him back in the ring.

The announcers discuss this new, aggressive side we’ve seen of late from Finn Balor as he blasts Dragunov with a dropkick to the back of the head while he was seated in the middle of the ring. Balor slaps a head lock on Dragunov and controls the Russian on the mat now.

The Moscow Menace continues to fight back, refusing to stay down, but Balor is happy to oblige with more offensive punishment in an attempt to keep him down. Balor stomps away at Dragunov over and over again against the referee’s orders to the delight of the fans in attendance. The announcers again discuss the recent aggressive streak we’ve seen from Finn Balor.

After being on the receiving end of a beat down that seemed never-ending, Dragunov finally starts fighting back. He culminates a big offensive onslaught with a flying knee smash onto a grounded Balor for a near fall. The fans are now chanting “Let’s Go Balor!” trying to cheer him back into the fight, which Dragunov is now in complete control of.

The two start countering and exchanging each other’s moves, thwarting each other’s attempts in repeated fashion. Balor starts to fire up but a kick right between the eyes from Dragunov sets Balor up for the high-angle suplex into the bridge pin attempt from Dragunov. Balor kicks out at the last second. Things build to a big spot with Dragunov hitting a high spot on Balor on the ground outside the ring.

From the top rope, Dragunov goes coast to coast inside the ring with an almost immediate follow-up to his high spot on the floor. Somehow both isn’t enough to put away Balor. We see replays of the near-finish from Dragunov as the announcers focus on the bloody nose of Balor, speculating as to whether or not it is busted, or broken.

Dragunov comes off the top rope but lands on double knees to the back from Balor. Balor drop kicks him and sprints up to the top rope. He leaps off with the Coup de Grace. He follows that up with the 1916. 1-2-3. Balor wins.

Winner: Finn Balor
