UK Star Rumored to Join Mae Young Classic, Niven in Documentary

The United Kingdom Championship Tournament will be airing on the WWE Network later on this month, and the show promises to feature some exciting action with even more fantastic European athletes. After that tournament comes to an end, WWE will be shifting their attention to building up the second annual Mae Young Classic tournament. The event will likely see 32 athletes from all over the world compete in the tournament just like last year. With names such as Toni Storm, Io Shirai, and Deonna Purrazzo reportedly signing WWE deals recently, it looks like some of the potential participants for this year’s tournament are beginning to present themselves at last.
Another name is now being linked to the Mae Young Classic tournament, and it is a United Kingdom wrestler who was not involved with last year’s tournament. The latest Wrestling Observer Radio has claimed that Xia Brookside will be competing at the Mae Young Classic tournament. Brookside is the daughter of NXT trainer Robbie Brookside, and she was reportedly backstage during the recent set of NXT TV tapings. Brookside has also reportedly cancelled most of her independent wrestling dates towards the end of summer, which is interesting given that the Mae Young Classic tournament will be taking place in August. At only 18-years-old, Brookside has been making a name for herself on the UK independent wrestling circuit.
One of the most unique participants from last year’s Mae Young Classic tournament was Piper Niven. Niven competes on the UK independent wrestling circuit as Viper and has become famous for her great strength and power in the ring, and she is also the current ICW Women’s Champion. Insane Championship Wrestling has just announced that Niven will be the subject of an upcoming BBC documentary airing later this month. The special will show the daily life of Piper Niven (real name Kimberly Benson) as she begins working her day job before competing in the ring by night. The ‘Fight Like A Girl’ documentary premieres across the UK on BBC One at 7:30pm on June 11th.
