MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition this week. The Dragons host No. 1 St. Cloud State on Thursday night before traveling to Aberdeen, S.D. to face the Northern State Wolves on Saturday. Both duals will begin at 7 p.m., with live video available on msumdragons.com.
The Dragons nearly defeated the University of Mary Marauders on Sunday afternoon at Alex Nemzek Hall, with the dual coming down to the heavyweight match, where Mary’s Dominic Tudor won an overtime decision over MSUM’s Jordan Magnuson. Among the highlights from the dual was sophomore Joe Schumacher, who made his MSUM debut in style, winning a decision over Reed Cronin that saw Schumacher lock up a cradle for back points in the closing seconds.
The Dragons are led by junior Adam Blees, who has a 13-7 record this season and is ranked 10th in the nation at 174. Freshman Cole Jones is 14-10 on the season, while Magnuson is 11-8 so far this season. Junior Zach Scott, a transfer from Rochester Community and Technical College, is 11-12 on the season. Senior Tommy Walton, who has missed time with an injury, is 5-2 at 141.
Kris Nelson is in his ninth season as the MSUM head coach.

About St. Cloud State
The Huskies come into the dual ranked No. 1 in the nation, with nine individuals ranked, including Larry Bomstad and James Pleski, both of whom are ranked No. 1 in their weight classes. The Huskies are led by Vince Dietz, who is 24-1 on the season at 197 pounds. Bomstad is close behind with a 20-1 record, while Devin FitzPatrick is 16-3 on the season. Pleski is 18-1 on the season. St. Cloud State is led by head coach Steve Costanzo, who is in his 12th season as head coach.
About Northern State
The Wolves are 1-9 on the season, with an 0-3 conference mark. They are coming off a 42-3 loss to the Huskies last Thursday. Prior to the MSUM dual, they will host the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Friday evening. They are in the middle of a five-match homestand. Paxton Mewes is 9-4 while Billy Holtan is 8-7 for the Wolves.

The Dragons will return to MSUM to host their final two duals of the regular season. They will host Southwest Minnesota State on Feb. 10 and will wrap up the regular season on Feb. 15. They will travel to St. Cloud for the Super Regional Tournament on Feb. 23-24 before the national tournament on March 9-10 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
