UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Train service has returned to normal after a water main break on the Upper West Side of Manhattan Sunday morning disrupted subways and delayed traffic for the second time this week.
The water main break happened at 103rd Street and Central Park West around 7:30 a.m., according to the MTA.
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) arrived at the scene to shut off the water, but enough water had already poured into the 103rd Street Station that the MTA declared it too unsafe for trains to pass through.
After hours of clearing water from the tracks and inspecting subway equipment for any damage, the MTA announced that service for the A, C and D train resumed again around 12:30 p.m.
The DEP had successfully stopped the flow of water at the station as of 10:30 a.m., according to the MTA.
Service on the A, C and D train are all expected to move at slower speeds, and the MTA said for customers to expect delays as congestion clears and trains get back on schedule.
