New York Road Runners Celebrates National Running Day on Wednesday, June 3, Across the Five Boroughs

 

New Yorkers of all ages and abilities to participate in group runs and walks, water stations in parks, giveaways, and more

York Road Runners will celebrate the seventh annual National Running
Day with activities across the five boroughs, including group runs
and walks, water stations in parks, giveaways, and their largest youth
running event of the year‰ÛÓthe Mighty Milers Fun Run‰ÛÓon Wednesday, June
3.

 

‰ÛÏEvery day of
the year, NYRR‰Ûªs mission is to help and inspire people through running,‰Û
said Michael Capiraso, president and CEO of New York Road Runners.
‰ÛÏFrom kids to seniors, from first-time participants
to elite athletes, we are thrilled to provide opportunities on National
Running Day and all year that inspire communities to embrace running as
a way to better lives, build community, and fuel positive change. We
hope June 3 brings runners of all kinds together
across the five boroughs and beyond to celebrate the power and benefits
of running and fitness.‰Û

 

‰ÛÏNYRR is
celebrating National Running Day by getting New Yorkers of all ages and
abilities moving across the five boroughs,‰Û said Peter Ciaccia,
president of events for New York Road Runners and race director
of the TCS New York City Marathon. ‰ÛÏFrom morning and evening group runs
in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island to a senior walk and Mighty
Miler‰Ûªs youth running event on Randall‰Ûªs Island, to water stations in
every borough, we‰Ûªll be hosting a variety of
running and fitness activities that will encourage and energize new and
longtime runners in our local communities.‰Û

 

NYRR
touches the lives of over 400,000 New Yorkers throughout the five
boroughs and runners around the world, through a wide variety of events
and programs for people of all ages.
In addition to producing more than 50 races and events a year, the
organization serves 200,000 students locally and nationally through free
NYRR youth running programs, events, and resources, including more than
120,000 in New York City‰Ûªs five boroughs. In
celebration of National Running Day, NYRR will host the following
activities on Wednesday, June 3:

 

Manhattan

 

6:00‰ÛÒ10:00 a.m., Breakfast Run (Upper East Side)

Runners
can visit NYRR‰Ûªs 9 East 89th Street location for free coffee and bagels
and the opportunity to meet and run with fellow local runners and get
training
tips from NYRR‰Ûªs Coach John before or after their morning run. Lockers
and restroom facilities will be available. Runners will receive a free
five-borough bandanna while supplies last.

 

6:00 a.m.‰ÛÒ6:00 p.m., Central Park Water Station and Giveaways

NYRR
will have a complimentary water station at the East 90th Street
entrance (Engineers’ Gate) of Central Park. Runners can quench their
thirst and customize
their own National Running Day bibs, and will receive a free
five-borough bandanna while supplies last.

 

10:00 a.m., Mighty Milers Fun Run (Randall‰Ûªs Island)

Nearly 2,000
Mighty Milers from New York City public schools throughout the five boroughs will take over Icahn Stadium in a year-end celebration
of running that includes 400- and 800-meter runs, infield games, relay races, an obstacle course, and more.

 

10:00 a.m., Senior Striders Walk (Randall‰Ûªs Island)

NYRR
staff will lead a free walk for adults and seniors of all fitness
levels. Prior to the walk, seniors will hand out National Running Day
ribbons to
youth runners participating in the Mighty Milers Fun Run at the same
location. The group will meet at Icahn Stadium (second floor) on
Randall’s Island and register to receive a T-shirt, button, five-borough
bandana, and sunglasses, while supplies last.

 

6:00-8:00 p.m., NYRR Happy Hour (Upper East Side)

NYRR‰Ûªs Coach John and
staff will be on hand to answer any running-related questions. Beer,
wine, and light snacks will be served. Runners are welcome to come by
after work or after a run. 

 

7:30 p.m., Team for Kids Happy Hour (Upper West Side) 

NYRR‰Ûªs
Team for Kids
is hosting a National Running Day happy hour at The Parlour on
Manhattan‰Ûªs Upper West Side. Runners
will be able to meet Team for Kids runners and coaches and learn how to
get guaranteed entry to the TCS New York City Marathon. There‰Ûªll be
food, giveaways, contests, and a free first drink for all. Runners can

Brooklyn

 

5:00‰ÛÒ7:00 p.m., Prospect Park Water Station and Giveaways

NYRR
will have a complimentary water station at Grand Army Plaza on East
Drive in Prospect Park. Runners can quench their thirst and customize
their own
National Running Day bibs, and will receive a free five-borough bandana
while supplies last.

 

7:00-10:00 p.m., Crown Heights Running Club Happy Hour

The Crown Heights Running Club will host happy hour at
Branch Ofc.,
about a mile from Prospect Park. Runners are welcome to come by after
work or after a run, and will be able to learn about the Crown
Heights Running Club and mingle with fellow runners.

 

Queens

 

6:30‰ÛÒ10:45 a.m., Flushing Meadows Corona Park Water Station and Giveaways

NYRR
will have a complimentary water station in Flushing Meadows Park, along
the west side of the Unisphere. Runners can quench their thirst and
customize
their own National Running Day bibs, and will receive a free
five-borough bandana while supplies last.

 

Staten Island

 

4:00‰ÛÒ7:30 p.m. Clove Lakes Park Water Stop and Giveaways

NYRR
will have a complimentary water station just inside the park off Clove
Road and Cheshire Place in Clove Lakes Park. Runners can quench their
thirst
and customize their own National Running Day bibs, and they‰Ûªll receive a
free five-borough bandana while supplies last. Around 6:15 p.m.,
runners can join
Staten Island Athletic Club members for a post-work run that starts at the Stonehenge building in Clove Lakes Park and ends at
Pepper Jack Grill for an 8:00 p.m. happy hour where they can mix and mingle with fellow local runners.

 

Bronx

 

5:00‰ÛÒ7:00 p.m., Van Cortlandt Park Water Station and Giveaways 

NYRR
will have a complimentary water station near the Tortoise and Hare
statue at Van Cortlandt Park. Runners can quench their thirst and
customize their
own National Running Day bibs, and will receive a free five-borough
bandana while supplies last.

12:00 p.m., Facebook Live Chat

NYRR
coaches John and Stuart will be available to answer runners‰Ûª questions
about training for any distance, proper running and racing etiquette
(even
concerning snot rockets), and anything else running-related that might
come up on National Running Day or any day!
