Block Party, Live Band at Pub Series Race This Sunday

NER made a reconnaissance trip to check out the only Irish
Pub in Whitman prior to last year’s inaugural race (and naturally we returned
to gather more ‘intel’).

The race had 135 finishers its first year and with its entry into NER Pub Series XIV, Pub proprieter Rich Rosen (who owns a
sizable chunk of real estate in Whitman), said if enough people show up, a block
party could ensue.

That’s become a reality as a field of 500 is a reachable goal between pre-registrants and a favorable forecast. Aqua Vitae and food will be available following the race during a block party featuring the rock band Artic Playground fronted by a female vocalist.

The course is of the quaint, white picket fence residential
variety, starting and finishing on Washington St. in downtown Whitman outside
of McGuiggans.

Housed in a remodeled 19th century building, McGuiggan’s is
an upscale Irish Pub with a 54-foot long mahogany bar with eight (8) flat screen
TV’s. It was hot last year but the Pub is air conditioned and along with the
usual tap fare (Guinness et al), serves a mean Sangria.
