Trump's DC Hotel Shouldn't Serve Booze Because Of Russia: Group

WASHINGTON, DC — An activist group is trying to use the ongoing investigation into the Trump campaign and Russian collusion as a reason to rescind the liquor license of the Trump International Hotel in D.C., and the Liquor Board is reviewing that request on Wednesday.

The District of Columbia’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board will hold a public hearing on Wednesday to discuss protests for a variety of businesses in the District, and President Trump’s D.C. hotel is on the list.

States the Board’s agenda: “Review the Complaint to Show Cause Why the Trump International Hotel Alcoholic Beverage License Should be Revoked, dated June 20, 2018. Trump Old Post Office, LLC, t/a Trump International Hotel, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Retailer CH, License No.: 100648.”

In a statement, a local activist group said that Joshua Levy, counsel for the complainants, is seeking to have the liquor license revoked due to “Mr. Trump’s failure to meet the good character threshold required in the District of Columbia for the ‘true and actual owner of an establishment licensed to serve alcoholic beverages.'”

The original complaint was submitted in June.

Specifically, the group claims that Trump made misleading statements regarding his son’s June 2016 meeting with a Russian attorney, was involved of a coverup of the meeting, and may have committed campaign finance violations as a result of “hush” payments made to women. As a result, his hotel shouldn’t be able to serve liquor, they say.

“The supplemental filings draw the Board’s attention to specific actions employed by Donald J. Trump to obfuscate the truth and to contravene the law,” the statement reads.

Added Levy in the statement: “Residents of the District of Columbia have been battered by Donald Trump’s endemic misrepresentations and deceptive conduct, all of which demonstrate that he lacks the good character required of those owning licensed liquor establishments. As a result, we believe it is incumbent upon the DC Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to grant our request for a show cause hearing seeking a revocation of the Trump International Hotel’s liquor license.”

The group expects a response from the Board by Sept. 18.
