Citizen Misreports Brooklyn Family Feud As Brain-Chucking Attack

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A Citizens App alert mistakenly warned Crown Heights of an impending zombie apocalypse when it reported a woman had attacked another person with a brain.

Crown Heights residents received the erroneous notice, that a woman had thrown a brain at another woman near Union Street and Rogers Avenue, about 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“Breaking,” wrote a Twitter user named Mia. “Zombies attack crown heights [Sic].”

The unconfirmed report was soon corrected to show that it was a picture frame that had been thrown, and not a brain.

Police confirmed Opal Wyrick, 27, was charged with assault for swinging the frame at a 42-year-old relative during a family fight.

The victim suffered cuts but did not require medical attention, according to the FDNY and NYPD.

A spokesperson from Citizen, an app and website that alerts subscribers to emergencies occurring in their neighborhoods, did not immediately respond to Patch’s request for comment.
