Dubai: Etihad Airways and Kuwait Airways announced on Sunday a codeshare partnership on selected flights from January 5, 2020.
###
Under the deal, Etihad will place its ‘EY’ code on Kuwait Airways-operated flights from Abu Dhabi to Kuwait, Najaf in Iraq, and Dhaka in Bangladesh.
###
In turn, Kuwait Airways will place its ‘KU’ code on Etihad flights from Kuwait to Abu Dhabi, Belgrade, Casablanca, Rabat, Khartoum, Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, Male, and Mahe.
###
Tony Douglas, chief executive officer of Etihad Aviation Group, said the codeshare partnership will give the Abu Dhabi carrier “unprecedented access to important markets” it currently does not serve. He pointed out Iraq and Bangladesh, where he said Etihad has “significant point-to-point and transfer traffic.”
###
Kuwait Airways said the deal will allow its customers to book connecting flights on both airlines using one reservation, and will enhance ties between Kuwait and the UAE.
###
The deal is still subject to regulatory approval.
