India: Man hacked to death over bursting crackers in Odisha

The festival of lights is synonyms with the sound of firecrackers in most parts of India. In an unexpected turn of events,  it proved deadly for this man in Odisha.

The man, identified as Amaresh Nayak, was allegedly killed after a quarrel occurred over bursting crackers during Diwali celebrations in the city of Bhubaneswar, according to Indian media reports.

According to Hindustan Times, the discussion led to a heated argument following which the group, consisting of about 15 people, attacked him with sharp weapons.

While reports do not state his exact age, he was referred to as a youngster.

###

After the attack, Nayak was rushed to Capital Hospital in the city, where he was declared brought dead.

The death is being investigated by local police. Meanwhile, Nayak’s attackers are absconding.

In October 2017, the Supreme Court of India banned firecrackers in Delhi. However, they are widely used across the country during Diwali time.
