Manchester City could not help but celebrate West Ham’s draw with Liverpool on Monday night – and they made their happiness clear on social media.
The reigning Premier League champions are now just three points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side, who were held at the London Stadium to make it two 1-1 draws in a row.
City can in fact move back into first this week should they win at Goodison Park against Liverpool’s local rivals Everton on Wednesday, having had the fixture moved forward due to reaching the Carabao Cup final.
Many Liverpool fans believe the Reds have ‘bottled’ their chance to win the Premier League for the first time with City now hot on their trail, and Klopp will hope his side get back to winning ways when they welcome Bournemouth to Anfield on Saturday.
West Ham did City a huge favour on Monday night, and the east London club highlighted just how thankful Pep Guardiola’s side were of their impressive draw.
Manchester City liked the full-time tweet West Ham sent out on social media website Twitter, with the Hammers later sharing an image to prove the Etihad Stadium club were happy with the result.
Michail Antonio scored the goal that secured West Ham the draw, with the winger cancelling out Sadio Mane’s opener – which should not have stood as James Milner was clearly offside in the build-up.
Klopp criticised the officiating after the match, despite Liverpool scoring an offside goal and almost benefiting from another dreadful decision; with basically the final kick of the game, Divock Origi was played through on goal by Naby Keita but shot straight at Lukasz Fabiankski.
Origi was offside when Keita passed the ball but the linesmen did not make the call, but the Belgium forward missed to ensure West Ham were not dealt the harshest of blows.
