West Ham 1-1 Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp suggests referee was influenced by offside goal in ‘strange’ second half performance

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool were on the end of bad refereeing in their draw with West Ham – despite SCORING an offside goal.

Sadio Mane’s opener should not have stood as James Milner was in an offside position when receiving the ball in the build-up, but West Ham fought back to claim a draw with Michail Antonio netting after a well-worked free-kick.

The Reds almost benefited from a second incorrect offside decision, as the linesmen failed to stop play in the dying stages when Divock Origi, the forward, was played in by Naby Keita.

Thankfully for West Ham, Lukasz Fabianski made a vital save to ensure West Ham ended the match with a well-deserved point.

Despite these clearly incorrect decisions benefiting Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp CRITICISED the officials after the match – suggesting they were making calls against the Reds due to make up for Mane’s goal.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, Klopp said: “We had good moments, coming through the channels and scored the goal, which I’ve now been told is offside. This explains a little bit the second half, because I think the referee knew at half-time.

“He knew it for sure at half-time, and then you saw a lot of strange situations. They were not decisive but just rhythm breakers. That obviously didn’t help us.

“If I’ve made a mistake in the first half, I don’t want to open the gap even more as a human being.”

According to football.london, Jurgen Klopp could face a ban for his post-match comments.

Liverpool failed to extend their lead over Manchester City to five points on Monday night, and the Reds will now drop down into second should Pep Guardiola’s side defeat Everton on Wednesday.
