West Bromwich Albion 1-3 Brighton and Hove Albion (aet): Glenn Murray strikes from the bench to set up FA Cup tie with Derby County

Glenn Murray proved to be Brighton and Hove Albion’s hero as he came off the bench to score twice in a 3-1 over West Bromwich Albion.

The Championship side fought valiantly at home, but injuries and fatigue took their hold, and it is the Seagulls who advance – where a home tie against Derby County awaits them.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, Brighton finished strongly – a theme which was to carry on throughout the game.

Leon Balogun hit the woodwork and Florin Andone was inches away from the opening goal, while at the other end Hal Robson-Kanu grazed the crossbar with a stunning strike.

It took a bizarre goal to break the deadlock, with Kyle Bartley turning the ball home on the line after the ball had looped high off the crossbar.

West Brom’s joy was short-lived as an error from Bartley allowed Andone to steal in and finish through the legs of Jonathan Bond.

There was heartache for Robson-Kanu who, having seen Darren Moore use all his substitutes, had to limp off through injury

Brighton took the lead in the closing moments of the first period of extra time

Jurgen Locadia’s low cross-shot hit Baggies defender Ahmed Hegazi and was turned in by fellow substitute Glenn Murray.

And Murray grabbed his second goal of the game with three minutes remaining when he was played in by Davy Propper and picked out the far corner.
