Former England footballer Stuart Pearce is heading off to North Korea on holiday – and the talkSPORT team decided to give him some language lessons before he leaves.
Pearce, known as ‘Psycho’ during his playing career, revealed his plans to visit Kim Jong-un’s land on Friday’s Sports Breakfast show with Ally McCoist, and he explained his reasons for the rather unconventional holiday.
“I’ve been loaded up with propaganda that this fella [Jong-un] wants to start a war,” Pearce said, “and I prefer to see things for myself and make my own judgements.
“When I was a kid I wanted to see every country in the world. I’ve probably seen about 80 or 90 at this moment in time, and I just think it opens your eyes to a whole new experience.”
To send him on his way, Ally – with a little help from the International House London – gave Pearce some language lessons.
But rather than teach him the basics such as ‘hello’, ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, Ally decided to test Pearce on the more complex phrases, including ‘I like punk music’ and ‘I used to play football’.
And, just to be safe, they taught him how to clarify he is not a spy!
