Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already building Manchester United in the future vision he has of the club, even if he will not be in the dugout beyond the end of the season.
Solskjaer has been in the Old Trafford hot seat just shy of two months now, having succeeded Jose Mourinho the day after the Portuguese’s sacking.
United remain undefeated since Solskjaer returned to the club, with nine wins and a draw which have seen the Red Devils move back into contention for the top four and book an FA Cup fifth round clash with Chelsea.
Though there have been calls for Solskjaer, 45, to be handed the United job on a permanent basis given the superb work he has been doing since taking the reins, though the club remain unwilling to rush an official appointment.
Nonetheless, Solskjaer has made clear his desire for the position, and he revealed on Friday he has already created a ‘picture’ of how United would look in the future under his stewardship – and has outlined his vision to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
“Well, every day I feel that I do help the club, do put a little bit of my stamp on it,” the Norwegian said in a press conference. “But decisions, sometimes of players’ futures are not down to me, either.
“It’s the players, do they want to stay, do they want to move on, do they want something else, but we have a vision and a picture of how we want to look in a few years and of course we have to think long-term and also short-term.
“And I’ve got a picture of what this Man United team should look like in a couple of years, I don’t know if it’s with me, but I put my views to Ed and the club.”
Solskjaer hopes to continue his brilliant start to life at Old Trafford this weekend, with relegation-threatened Fulham hosting the Red Devils. A win for United could send them into the top four, dependant on results elsewhere.
