Reading striker Oliveira was left with a gruesome facial injury following a challenge from the defender during The Royals’ 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.

While the FA has confirmed no further action will be taken, Oliveira’s wife, Mel, has appealed for the Bournemouth loanee to receive a ‘lengthy ban’.

“It was a sad day for us and I hope someone will appeal for this guy to get a lengthy ban,” she wrote on her personal Instagram account.

“There’s absolutely no excuse for his behaviour.

“He knew where his head was. Any injury is upsetting but something like this is just disgusting.

“I hope something will happen, he can’t get away with that! He’s got previous!”

Mings has previously been involved in a stamping incident, with the FA issuing a five-match ban for a challenge on Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2017.

Oliveira, who ‘liked’ his wife’s post, shared a message of his own after was discharged from hospital on Monday, expressing his gratitude to the medical staff for their support.

He said: “Finally at home … I want to thank the entire medical team at @readingfc and the Royal Berkshire Hospital who helped me brilliantly during these tough days, I have no words to say how grateful I am.”
