Manchester United news: Liverpool favourite John Arne Riise laughs off Paul Ince’s suggestion he could’ve done the same job as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Liverpool legend John Arne Riise has rubbished Paul Ince’s claims he could’ve had the same impact at Manchester United as current interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer has won nine of his 10 games in charge of United since taking over from the sacked Jose Mourinho in December.

However, former Red Devils midfielder Ince has sparked controversy after suggesting on BT Sport’s Saturday Morning Savage that ‘anyone’ could have done the job the Norwegian has done.

He said: “I think I could have gone in at the time.

“They needed someone to rest the ship, I think I could have done that.

“Brucie (Steve Bruce) could have done it, Mark Hughes could have too.”

Ince, 51, who was last in charge of Blackpool in 2014, stood by his comments in a column published on Sunday by BBC Sport.

Anfield favourite Riise has reacted with astonishment to Ince’s continued stance, insisting there’s “no chance” he would have replicated Solskjaer’s feat.

He posted on Twitter: “Paul Ince.. no chance he would have done the same and got the same results as Ole Gunnar. No chance!”

Solskjaer’s team face a trip to struggling Fulham on Saturday before they entertain Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash three days later.
