Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done nothing to harm his chances of getting the Manchester United job permanently at the end of the season.
He has won nine and drawn one of his first 10 games in charge and is getting the best out of their star players who were underperforming under Jose Mourinho.
Solskjaer is only there as caretaker manager, at this stage, and is still contracted to Norwegian side Molde.
Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly still United’s number one choice to take over from the 2019/20 season.
A number of former Red Devils have spoken out about who they believe should get the job.
Here’s who has spoken so far.
Wayne Rooney
The 33-year-old believes Pochettino should be the next permanent boss of Manchester United and told ESPN he would “go all out” for the Spurs man.
He slightly backtracked in a later interview with CNN, where he said: “It’d be nice to see Ole Gunnar continue with this form and get a shot at the job on a permanent basis.”
But then said if not Solskjaer, then Pochettino would be the right man.
Wes Brown
The former United defender is firmly in the Solskjaer camp and told talkSPORT he “would love Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the permanent Manchester United job”.
Dimitar Berbatov
The striker has been impressed with Solskjaer and said he is an inspiration for former players to get into management.
He also does not want to see Pochettino leave Tottenham.
“I want him [Pochettino] here [at Tottenham],” Berbatov told talkSPORT.
“This is a bit selfish from me because I once played for Spurs, and seeing the way he is doing the job, it’s better to stay because he is going to help them and they will help him grow as a coach as well.
“In the world we live in, everybody is going to go on their own path, but at the moment I think is the right place for him.
“If Solskjaer keeps going the way he’s going, I don’t think they’re going to offer him [Pochettino] the job.”
Ryan Giggs
The Wales manager was far more diplomatic in his response when asked on talkSPORT about who he believes should be the next manager.
He said Solskjaer has put himself firmly in the running for the job after his superb start.
Rio Ferdinand
The defender admitted he was not initially taken by the appointment of his former team-mate but has been impressed with how he has done.
He stopped short of suggesting the job should go to Solskjaer but heaped praise on him and said he has not gone there to be temporary.
Gary Neville
Neville backed Pochettino to succeed Mourinho at Old Trafford after he was sacked in December.
This was before Solskjaer went on a 10-game unbeaten run, though, and got United playing good football again.
Paul Ince
The former Red Devil dismissed Solskjaer’s record as interim boss and insisted Pochettino should get the permanent gig.
He even said “we can’t get too sucked in with what Ole’s done.”
Paul Parker
Parker is another Solskjaer backer and wants to see the Norweigan given a chance at the full-time job.
“I believe he could manage Manchester United next season and beyond,” Parker told talkSPORT.
