Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to beg the club for new defenders ahead of the summer transfer window, reports claim.
The Reds, who boast one of Europe’s tightest defences this season, failed to add anyone to their squad in January and loaned right-back Nathaniel Clyne to Bournemouth.
The decision to let Clyne leave has raised a few eyebrows, with Liverpool desperately struggling for cover in his position due to injuries.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren are all out, meaning James Milner has been forced to fill in at full-back for several important games.
According to The Sun, Klopp will look to add more cover for first-choice centre-backs, Virgil van Dijk and Gomez, in the summer as his squad’s lack of defensive depth begins to show.
Last night, the Reds were overtaken at the top of the Premier League as title-rivals Manchester City beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park.
It comes after Klopp’s men failed to win twice in a row, with a 1-1 draw at home to Leicester followed by the same result away at West Ham.
In January 2018, Liveropol made Van Dijk the world’s most expensive defender and the Dutchman made an instant impact, and many are tipping him to be crowned FA Player of the Year 2018/19.
