Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher’s amazing response to Adam Lallana’s Cruyff Turn-filled performance vs West Ham

Jamie Carragher made fun of Adam Lallana after the Liverpool midfielder decided to go a bit over the top with his skills in Monday night’s draw with Liverpool.

Lallana is well known for his technical approach to the game, with his love for the Cruyff Turn leading to many people suggesting it should be renamed the ‘Lallana Turn’.

He started Liverpool’s draw at the London Stadium, and played a key role in Sadio Mane’s opening goal – though the strike should not have stood.

Lallana, 30, kept possession superbly on the right touchline before playing in James Milner, who cut the ball back for Mane to finish; Milner was in an offside position when Lallana played his pass, however, but the linesmen failed to notice and the goal was given.

Lallana made the pass after a lovely piece of skill created the space for him to play the ball, and when Carragher was dissecting the goal post-match on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, he made fun of the midfielder’s love for the Cruyff Turn.

Carragher, the Liverpool legend, said: “In the first 20 minutes he did more Cruyff Turns than Johan Cruyff did in his whole career!”

The England international has struggled for game time over the past couple of years due to injury, and he is very much down the pecking order this season.

However, he started on Monday night and Ashley Cole, the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender who was a guest on the show, believes Jurgen Klopp will need Lallana a lot this term.

Cole added: “He didn’t play a lot last season or this season – he’s had a lot of injuries – but he’s technically gifted, and in these tight situations is when you need your top players with quick feet to get out of dangerous situations.

“They are going to need him more often than not this season.”
