Kyle Walker: Manchester City defender deletes tweet poking fun at Liverpool using Harry Maguire World Cup meme

Kyle Walker pounced on Liverpool’s inability to capitalise on Manchester City’s shock defeat by having a laugh at their expense on Twitter.

City were beaten 2-1 at Newcastle on Tuesday and would have fallen seven points behind Liverpool had they beaten Leicester the following evening.

Having taken the lead through Sadio Mane, Liverpool failed to add a second and were soon pegged back when Harry Maguire equalised before half-time.

And following the 1-1 draw, Walker posted a meme made popular during the World Cup, to have a light-hearted Joke at Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The right-back tweeted an image of goalscorer Maguire talking to his partner Fern Hawkins during last summer’s tournament in Russia after England’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Colombia along with the caption: ‘So basically they thought they were gonna go 7 points ahead…’.

However, the tweet was quickly deleted by Walker due to online backlash, presumably from disgruntled Liverpool supporters.

Walker has also used the image of Maguire before, first sharing it on social media after his England team-mate opened the scoring in during the World Cup quarter-final win over Sweden.

He tweeted: “Yeah so a good header doesn’t hurt. I mean the moment you head it proper, you feel it’s a good one. Know what I mean love?”
